Photography that's head and shoulders above the rest
PolePics One ‘Ready for lift off’
Often the subject behind the Camera is some what shy, but we have managed to sneak a few images of the PolePics truck yesterday morning with the mast and camera in the ‘ready to launch’ position.
Extending the mast would stretch the picture to most folks ceilings!
Oh it goes much higher! This is the just the ‘ready’ position with the camera about 12′ up. Fully extended it would be just over 70′ up, infact this picture would need to extend 600% – that’s close to many peoples ceilings to fit it all in!! My goodness imagine all the things we could see from up there!

As you can see we are parked in a field. Just like the best angle for many subjects is from somewhere above head height, the best location to elevate the mast is often off the road – So that’s one of the reasons we have one of the Worlds most capable 4×4 trucks. It saves you money if we can drive exactly to the right spot rather than spend time lugging gear all over the place.
‘look at the world from the ‘polepics’ angle.’
The big cab makes a great office with plenty of space to work – there’s even a DVD player in there too and plenty of oversized cup holders for use by the collection of people that we’ve found seem to congregate around the computer screens taking a look at the world from the ‘polepics’ angle. A big truck also provides stability too, in addition we have the capability of adding further support using truck jacks – just like those tall cranes and large fire trucks do – and also tether / guy lines.
Now if your wondering how on earth we drive around with such an amazing contraption bolted to the truck then you have a very good point. It is certainly possible to drive at modest speeds in this configuration - in fact you can have the camera take pictures while moving too (Note a driver and operator are required!)
But for normal transits the mast pivots into a horizontal position and then slides forward.
Now, lets see if we can find a wide enough angle lens to catch one of the truck with the mast extended fully – Oh and some aerials shots from the top too!
