Photography that's head and shoulders above the rest
Estate Portrait, is an Aerial Surprise!
It’s always exciting when the phone rings at Polepics mission control. Nearing the end of June we had a call requesting an ‘old world effect’ portrait of an estate on the shores of Prince Edward County.
The time frame to complete the project was short, and on top of that the image was to be a surprise for the house owner. A fairly discrete, if thats possible with a bazooka looking mast strapped to the roof, drive by was carried out to check when the lighting would be best. And so on a thundery afternoon a few days later Polepics turned up ready for action. Thankfully the cloudsstayed in the background, and the work began.
The task here was a touch more complex than a regular assignment because the final image was to be a montage showing several features of the property.
… a car arrived. Had we been rumbled.
“With montages its important to get enough images that can work together. On surveying the site a couple of features clearly required to be in the image and I started to create the final image in my mind, before the first polepics image was taken.” [SD]
A short drive onto the grass proved the best angle for the central shot. Concerned about the trail of flattened grass, polepics owner Steven Draper spent time to rough up the grass and cover his tracks. But then a car turned into the long drive and slowly made its way towards ‘Polepics One,’ mast extended into the evening sunshine. Had we been rumbled?
We love our clients seeing ‘the Pole’ in action, and fortunately thats who had turned up, not the home owner. We were able to discuss the overall look of the final image and Ann, our client, pointed out some of the features she liked, although we had already spotted a beautiful rose path that leads up to the property that was to form part of the composition. With a few more clicks the shoot was done and it was back into the depths of the studio to apply some further magic to the aerial angles.
We’ve a number of house portraits scheduled for the future. If you’d like anything from a single shot to a complex montage like the one above, then we’d be happy to show off your best angle too.

Nice update to the site. The ‘old world look’ is awesome. I am still building my pole, on a trailer. Do you also have panoramas? I now have the equipment for that, but no experience.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks Bart for your kind comment.
Yes I do panoramas too. The ability to stitch can be a very useful tool. There are a couple of images in the galleries where I have stitched two images togeather. I have a few more files from some of my own projects where some stitching will be required.
All the best with your trailor mount.
